Holy Name
Parish
is Pembroke's second oldest Catholic parish, established
in 1921. It was first called St. John the Baptist and
was a bilingual parish situated in the north-west part
of Pembroke.
The parish was founded by Rev. Thomas Joseph Sloan,
who was parish priest from 1921 to 1944 and died in
1952. The cornerstone of the church was blessed by the
second bishop of the Diocese of Pembroke, Most Reverend
Patrick Thomas Ryan. |

The church bell, weighing about
1000 pounds, was manufactured by John Taylor of Loughborough,
England with the names of St. John the Baptist, St.
Zephyrin and St. Patrick inscribed. It was blessed,
following the celebration of the first Christmas celebrations,
on January 22, 1922. In 1957 the Parish Annex (Hall)
was added to the church complex and on December 13,
1968, Bishop W.J. Smith blessed the new parish rectory.
